Art on Display, Summer 2018

Members of the Positive Tomorrows Summer Art Club hopped off the school van in the parking lot of Oklahoma Contemporary. They were full of excitement and concentrating hard to keep their feet from running into the art gallery. The students had participated in Art Club during summer break camp and were on their way to see their very own pieces displayed in a real art gallery.

“I wanted students to have the experience of seeing their art in a gallery and learning about careers in the arts,” said Sarah Caputo, Positive Tomorrows Art Teacher. “Each student got to choose their medium and what they would create, and we talked about what goes into creating an art show.”

Art at Home with Positive Tomorrows, Spring-Summer 2020

At our newest Arts in Schools partner site Positive Tomorrows, Oklahoma’s only elementary school and social services agency specifically serving children and families experiencing homelessness, Sarah Caputo, art & music teacher, created Art at Home videos to stay engaged with teachers and school staff  during the pandemic. She shared them in private Facebook groups created for the kiddos and parents at Positive Tomorrows and we are excited to share them here as part of our weekly lessons.

Developing a Cultural Curriculum Guide

“Every child deserves to see themselves in the world around them,” Sarah Caputo, art & music teacher at Positive Tomorrows, said.

Mrs. Sarah, along with Director of Education Amy Brewer, work to incorporate cultural and diversity curriculum into the classrooms and extracurricular activities at Positive Tomorrows throughout the school year. This February, they are helping our kiddos and staff celebrate Black History Month.
